Power Man - Timeless #4

Power Man is a future version of Luke Cage who's also the Sentry and the Hulk. He's also Iron Fist, though you'd think that wouldn't matter much compared to the other two.

Last issue: punching. Apocalypse was there. This is the conclusion.

Nightwing #132 features Olivia Pearce's face.

This year's annual'd shown her mind a bit, gone into her serving the Zanni and his need to make the world a circus.

She's been the head of Spheric Solutions, the super-weapons company militarizing Blüdhaven's police - legitimacy that's not looking so much to police commissioner Maggie Sawyer.

Sawyer and Nightwing knew her tie to recent disappearances of children. Nightwing went after Pearce for that - and for what a scheme of her brain'd done to Bryce Moran in issue #131.

She met him. )

Max, Out: INVASION #3 (JLI 28)

(Running this early because I might have some laptop issues imminent.)

The 80-page Invasion #3 has such a misleading cover that I wonder if it reflected an earlier, discarded version of the plot. AAR, the actual plot (by Keith Giffen) has enough impact on the Justice League that it deserves its own section here. Finished art (over Giffen layouts) by Bart Sears, who had a long future with this League ahead of him. Script by Bill Mantlo, whose work on the series was his only DC Comics job ever.

The war is over, but like Hiroo Onoda, the last Japanese holdout of World War II, one Dominator geneticist refuses to give up the fight.

Not that one should encourage too many comparisons between the Japanese and the yellow-skinned Dominators, who attach great importance to a red circle, are known as planners, have a pluralistic society, attacked the Southeast Indies…uh, but they also have castes and forehead dots, like Indians…Fu Manchu fingernails…you know, I’m starting to regret that I brought this up… )

SGA: Born Under a Bad Sign by Brumeier

Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Characters/Pairings: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay, Evan Lorne, Radek Zelenka, Laura Cadman
Rating: Teen
Length: 7984
Content Notes: no AO3 warnings apply
Creator Links: Brumeier on AO3
Themes: Mystery and suspense, Psychic powers, Friends to lovers, Complete AU: law enforcement

Summary: Rodney had thought the worst part of his day was coming home from the office and finding a dead man in his living room. He was wrong. But the investigation brought him and John together, and that's when things really got interesting.

Reccer's Notes: This is an engaging story in which Rodney's the head of his own tech company and John's a psychic with clairvoyance and precognitition who works with Lorne, a detective. They get called in when Rodney finds a dead stranger in his apartment, leading to an investigation. The story revolves around Rodney's reactions to John's abilities (mistrust gradually changing to fascination), all while being attracted to him. John is troubled, mostly seeing death and being able to locate killers, after being traumatised by his mother's death. Until he meets Rodney! :D It's romantic, with an interesting plot - an excellent read.

Epic Trollface: WONDER WOMAN #26, JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #23 (JLI 27)

Invasion #2 wrapped up the actual alien invasion, leaving the crossover issues to deal with the aftermath and then get a surprise ending, leading into Invasion #3.

Wonder Woman begins WW #26 feeling a much greater sense of camaraderie with the Justice League International than she would ever show again, including years later when she was leading the team. It’s hilarious, but relatable, that even though the JLI would sign her on in a heartbeat, she’s like, I know it’s arrogant to think myself worthy, but what if they might maybe someday possibly consider me? If I keep my numbers up?

It’s a damn shame this era’s Max Lord never got to meet this era’s Myndi Mayer. )

Barbarian Lord by Matt Smith

What is Barbarian Lord? Well, there's a website that explains it perfectly cromulently, but if you want the short version, imagine Bone-style comics cartoonery illustrating an Icelandic saga. One part Carl Banks, two parts Walt Simonson. And it has an Epic Rap Battle of History.

I think technically it's called Flyting. )
